football and a storm

While gearing up for the football game last weekend we, along with many other people, had quite the experience! Josh and I met up with our awesome friends April and Cole (and their 1 month old baby, Kennedy!!) so that we could to the football game together. Josh and Cole were going to go save us seats a couple hours before the game started and April, Kennedy and I were going to come about an hour and a half later so that we could arrive just in time for the opening. Well, as April and I were getting ready to leave we noticed that all of a sudden it was getting really dark outside. We thought that was really strange, and as we continued to get ready to leave a hurricane like storm hit! The wind was blowing (up to 70 mph according to the news), and the rain was coming down hard and fast! Puddles began to form almost instantly and things were just crazy! April and I were in the basement when we noticed that water was starting to come into the house! We grabbed as many towels as we could and stuffed them up against the door, creating a barrier to stop the water. Needless to say, it was SO good we hadn't let yet because 1. we could have been walking in that storm, with the baby, right when it hit and 2. the water in the basement might have continued to flood in and damage things for who knows how long before someone got to it.

Bummer I didn't get more and better pictures of this....

During the chaos we had a hard time getting a hold of our husbands, we found out our husbands some how lost each other and that they were both soaking wet and cold, and we had a hard time finding them once we got to the stadium a few hours later! Josh had found some friends and his cousin so we spent game time with them (be proud, I stayed the WHOLE game. go me!) After the game we were able to hang out some more with April and Cole, eat some yummy quesadillas with guacamole (thanks Cole!) and catch up more. Overall, it was a crazy and awesome day. I'll remember that football game  more than any others.

our little vacation: part 3

Well, after leaving Hurricane we decided that since we were so close to Zion that we would try our luck with the weather to explore a little! We had also never been to Zion and it did not disappoint. It was GORGEOUS! Although there was not much time for us to hike where we wanted to go, we found a couple places that we want to check out for next time! After a few hours of exploration, we headed back home to get ready for school to start!

our little vacation: part 2

Our next stop for our vacation was supposed to be hiking and camping in Zions National Park, but since the weather was not looking good, we decided we would rather go to the next step of our trip early -- Las Vegas! I had never been to Vegas so we decided that while we are close, we might as well explore. We booked a last minute room with a hotel on the strip and relaxed in luxury which was much needed after sleeping in our car ;). We had a fun time exploring all of the hotels and relaxing at the pool during the hot day. We even made great friends with a Lady from Brazil while at the pool! On our way out we visited the Las Vegas Temple, and the store from the show Pawn Stars. After Vegas we drove to St. George and got to spend time with Josh's mission president and his wife. It was awesome to be able to hang out with them, go to dinner, learn a new and amazing waffle recipe, and learn a new game called green bowling. From St. George we headed to Hurricane to participate in Peach Days with Josh's aunts and uncles and their family. It was fun to be able to see and spend time with them!

Temple grounds

The float that we drove in the parade. Well, not really a float. But those water bottles they were throwing our were a HUGE hit. It was hilarious to watch children and adults alike wave their hands and shout out for one.

our little vacation: part 1

The week before school started Josh and I headed our for a little road trip vacation. First stop on our trip was Bryce Canyon in Utah. We had both never been and we wanted to camp and hike. When we got there we explored around the different outlooks and scouted out places we wanted to hike to the next day. Around 5:00 pm we decided that we better head back to camp to start a fire and warm up some dinner. The clouds were daunting and everything was already wet from previous rain. The fire did not come easily and as we were making it it began to rain! With some quick thinking (holding a tarp over the fire) we were able to heat up some dinner quick enough before it started pouring and hide out in our tent to eat. Well the rain sure came down hard! As we ate we noticed a little water in our tent... and then more and more! I guess we did not know that our tent was NOT water proof! What the adventure! We had to pack up our stuff into our car in a hurry as the rain came down. Well, we already paid for our camp site, so what better thing to do than to just sleep in our car at our campsite so not to waste our money! We folded down the back seats of the car and slept in the trunk. Poor Josh was too tall to ever get comfortable, and like the good husband he is gave me the only mattress pad thing that we had, so I was just fine. It was completely NOT what we expected and we weren't able to see/do all that we wanted but it made for a very entertaining time.

red mud... very dangerous stuff

The crow was pretty popular.

Where we actually slept...

Funniest face of Josh ever.
